Bio

EN
Rui Maia is a portuguese musician and DJ/producer. In 2002 he founded the X-Wife with João Vieira (DJ Kitten); a post punk band where he played synthesisers. A music lover, Rui Maia started DJ’ing in 2004, regularly playing all over the country and developing a style of his own, mixing revamped disco sounds with house and techno.
In 2009, he was presented the opportunity to release music in his own name, a challenge he happily met and that produced titles like "Cantonese Man" (Untracked Recordings), "Mirror People" (Optimus Discos) and, in collaboration with Social Disco Club, the EP "The Way You Move" (Bearfunk Records).
After the "The Way You Move" success - it was featured in several compilations such as Future Disco or Defected and Greg Wilson did his own version of it - Rui Maia decided to create a new project: Mirror People.
Mirror People was born in America, during a tour with X-Wife. The idea was to create a project that brought together 70’s disco-sound influences with fresh and current dance floor rhythms.

Mirror People was born in America, during a tour with X-Wife. The idea was to create a project that brought together 70’s disco-sound influences with fresh and current dance floor rhythms.
After a few themes released by different labels, like Permanent Vacation and the Portuguese Discotexas, he finally launched his debut album “Voyager”, in the begin of 2015, with celebrated and critically acclaimed singles, such as “Come Over” or “I Need Your Love”. This debut album also gave Rui the opportunity to tour European stages on his own; a new experience for an experienced musician.
In 2015 Rui Maia released “Trinity of Thunder" EP, at his own brand new label, Belong Records. This EP features with names like Laurent Garnier, Bottin, Lauren Flax, Tensnake and Kasper Bjorke.
In 2016 it's time for the debut album. Across ‘Fractured Music’ Rui chose the starting pointing of using only analogue instruments, vintage drum machines, retro synthesizers and a reel to reel tape machine to create a raw, organic feel to the compositions.
Rui Maia regularly plays DJ Set and Live Act formats and he likes to fill the stage with synthesizers and electronic instruments.

Rui Maia, músico e produtor dos X-Wife e Mirror People.
