These Tears Feel So Eerie is the third release of Vasco Lé. His debut, ‘You Know, Everybody Wanna Say "I Do This, I Do That". Everyone Acts Like They're Hard as Shit. But Just Stop’, was self-released before being reissued on CD with Turva. This was followed by his audio work made for Andre Pipa's 'Instalação 001', ‘In Response to Apathetic Behaviour and the All-Consuming Nature of the Violent Productive City’.
Built largely out of samples that Lé has obsessively reworked, These Tears Feel So Eerie layers processed fragments with drum machines & the occasional overdub. There is an intimacy in the way he handles his sonic material & lays bare the cumulative force of contrasting spatio-temporalities. The result is nothing short of a romanticism strung out on the excitements of incongruity.
The title is a nod to Mark Fisher, whose knack for smuggling anti-capitalist critique into easy-to-digest examples from everyday life & popular modernism. 'Eerie' refers to when something should be there is missing; that feeling of unease that accompanies such a failed presence. For Lé, These tears... carries this sense of absence—that emotional residue that lingers in the gaps.
While this project shares a distant kinship with vapourwave's sampledelia—its collage mechanics, blurred & pitched-down disfigurations & all-in-the-red LoFi sheen—Lé's release eschews that nostalgic impulse often present that lineage. More apt is to place Lé's musical dynamism & rhythmic frenzy amongst the language of the PTP crew (Speaker Music / DeForrest Brown Jr., KVU, Saint Abdullah) or the London-school of tricksters (Dean Blunt, Inga Copeland, Klein).
These Tears Feel So Eerie is Perf's fifth instalment, & first tape release.

These Tears Feel So Eerie é o terceiro lançamento de Vasco Lé. A sua estreia, ‘You Know, Everybody Wanna Say “I Do This, I Do That”. Everyone Acts Like They’re Hard as Shit. But Just Stop’, foi auto-editada antes de ser reeditada em CD pela Turva. Seguiu-se o seu trabalho sonoro criado para a ‘Instalação 001’ de Andre Pipa, ‘In Response to Apathetic Behaviour and the All-Consuming Nature of the Violent Productive City’.
Construído em grande parte a partir de samples que Lé retrabalhou de forma obsessiva, These Tears Feel So Eerie sobrepõe fragmentos processados com drum machines e overdubs ocasionais. Há uma intimidade na forma como manuseia o seu material sonoro e expõe a força cumulativa de espácio-temporalidades contrastantes. O resultado não é menos do que um romantismo envolto nas excitações da incongruência.
O título é uma referência a Mark Fisher, conhecido pela sua capacidade de introduzir crítica anticapitalista em exemplos quotidianos e de fácil digestão, provenientes da vida comum e do modernismo popular. ‘Eerie’ remete para aquilo que deveria estar presente mas está ausente; essa sensação de inquietação que acompanha tal presença falhada. Para Lé, These Tears… carrega este sentido de ausência — esse resíduo emocional que persiste nos intervalos.
Embora este projeto partilhe um parentesco distante com a sampledelia da vaporwave — a sua mecânica de colagem, as desfigurações desfocadas e transposta para baixo, e o brilho LoFi no limite do vermelho —, o lançamento de Lé afasta-se do impulso nostálgico frequentemente presente nessa linhagem. Mais adequado será situar o dinamismo musical e o frenesim rítmico de Lé na linguagem da crew PTP (Speaker Music / DeForrest Brown Jr., KVU, Saint Abdullah) ou na escola londrina de provocadores (Dean Blunt, Inga Copeland, Klein).
These Tears Feel So Eerie é o quinto lançamento da Perf e o seu primeiro lançamento em cassete.
